Magento Migration – Shopify Web Store Development

February 20, 2022

Client

Rest Relax Gaming is a UK company aimed to change the gaming industry with products that bring together gorgeous aesthetics with only the finest materials. They’ve consulted with multiple specialists in different fields to help refine designs. Rest Relax engineers work with cutting-edge materials and novel prototypes to develop new, radical ideas.

Starting point

Rest Relax Gaming applied for creation of a Shopify site to sell their products. Previously, the company distributed all products through Amazon. Then with the growth and the desire to attract new customers, the company needed to create a new website.

Goal

The goal of this project was to create an easy-to-use, modern site for the sale of gaming desks, which would help increase the number of sales and the development of the company. At the same time, the site had to be made in a pleasant and eye-catching design, using combinations of turquoise, white and black colours. Another important goal was to create a logo that would match the colour combinations on the site.

Progress

Before starting work we created a logo for the website and approved it with the client. We installed the Empire theme, customized it and changed the colours of some buttons, the arrangement of elements and the content. Next, we moved on to the development stage, which included setting up purchase alerts, in-stock notification, setting up the display of delivery dates for certain products and other improvements.

An important part of the site development was the implementation of special delivery conditions. We engaged the Zipo team to set them up. The peculiarity was to limit delivery to certain regions of the UK by postcodes.

Testing is an essential part of preparing a website for going live. So after the implementation of all the necessary functionality, testing was carried out. Thanks to the simple functionality of the Shopify system, the release of the site was easy and fast.

RESULT

Go to the www.restrelaxgaming.co.uk to check the result and you might want to purchase one of the modern gaming desks.

Logo Design Works

What is Graphic Design?

Graphic design is an artistic and design activity to create a harmonious and effective visual and communicative environment.

Let’s figure out what this means for us, web developers (designers, typesetters and other computer pen and mouse workers). And also, and this is most important, for third-party (and not so) observers of web development – users (site owners and visitors).

The easiest way to understand something is to decompose this “something” into its components.

In general, we will decompose.

Firstly: Artistic and design activities.

Accordingly, based on the meanings of individual words, we design and create something according to the laws (there are such laws) of art, which does not contradict our aesthetic taste (at least).

What are we creating? Accordingly, it is an image of reality.
For example, the Company logo. Or the website of the same Company.

Secondly: A harmonious and effective visual and communicative environment.

“Harmonious”, in other words, is a balanced presentation of the Company’s image according to its ideas about itself and the expectations of the environment.

“Effective” means working, giving the required results.

“Visual-communicative” is what we see and can interact with it, carry out communication, that is, communicate.

Well, that’s clarified.

Summarizing.

How can this be applied in practice?

For web developers (all the same designers, coders, programmers, etc.):
Creating a website, drawing, making up and programming the desired effective tool of his business to the customer, remember the aesthetic taste and effectiveness of what will be done. Ie, draw beautifully, in an original way, but do not forget that it should work.

Owners of websites being created:
With all the thirst to capture yourself and your Company in marble, and put a red edging on the side, do not forget about the same aesthetic taste of visitors and their possible desire to communicate on the subject of ordering services or goods. I.e. it should be beautiful, original, express the individuality of the Company (if there is one), but also convenient, practical and not tedious.

AAA State of Play Web Store Magento 1 to Magento 2 Migration

October 28, 2020

Client

NVB Playgrounds, Inc. was founded by Nancy, Victor, and Nicolas Breedlove in 2006, USA. PlaygroundEquipment.com is an online high-quality playground equipment outfit for commercial use and their manufacturing line of playground equipment. They launched a second website the same year, AAA State of Play is a commercial playground equipment company.

Our relationship with Nicolas Breedlove and his team began in 2011 with the Playground Equipment store.

STARTING POINT

In September 2020 our long-term customer Nicolas contacted us, he got a lawsuit on ADA against his website the PlaygroundEquipment.com. Nicolas asked us to do some changes to both of his live websites and make them accessible by the WCAG 2.0. ADA is the acronym for the Americans with Disabilities Act. It provides that people with disabilities can purchase goods and services in the same manner as everyone else. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is an internationally recognized standard created by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), it contains three levels of accessibility – A, AA, and AAA. The statistics say today only 1.9% of websites are fully accessible by people with disabilities.

GOAL

The task was to fix critical elements of the website and meet the requirements of at least 75% to WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility. It was one of the first experiences at improving the website with requirements of Web Accessibility and Nicolas trusted our team.

PROCESS

At the beginning, we decided to implement the tool called “AccessiBe”, it’s fully automated Web Accessibility Solution for ADA & WCAG Compliance. Nevertheless, the AccessiBe solution is no help with the lawsuits, it just changes the appearance of the websites, and the score of Web Accessibility was still low.

So, we installed the AudioEye tool for the checking of the live websites. Due to this tool, we identified the main Accessibility errors of the websites and could fix them. Our designer highlighted the requirements of the Web Accessibility which helped us to get high results. Below the list of them:

  1. The links and interactive elements should be at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  2. The font size should be at least 14 px.
  3. The contrast of the element and its background should be sufficient.
  4. The contrast of the element and its surroundings should be sufficient.
  5. The titles. The H1 title should only be one per page. The first title in the code should be either h1 or h2. The sequence of the titles should not be broken.
  6. All images should include alt text tags.
  7. To hide elements use position:absolute; top:-10000px; instead of display: none

Now, we can do accessible designs on the mock-up milestone. At the phase of the mock-ups for the live and websites in development, we applied the changes with requirements of Accessibility.

ACHIEVED RESULT

Finally, the websites met the requirements of The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, the result of the PlaygroundEquipment.com is 95% to WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility, of the aaastateofplay.com is 93%. The special-needs users’ experience improved a lot!

Swissedu+ and Entering New Markets

January 30, 2020

Client

We so much enjoy working with our clients! They are experts in different fields and passionately develop and expand their businesses to international markets. In this respect, Simon and Natalia Schneider, leading business partners at Swissedu+ are a brilliant example. The Swissedu+ agency efficiently provides educational services in Switzerland in its full variety from consultation to organizational process of entering universities. And it needed a friendly and trustworthy website to target the Russian market and that of the CIS countries effectively.

STARTING POINT

The client wished to place descriptions of the services and be able to conduct full-fledged work and customer consultation straight from the website. The budget optimization was topical as well. Thus, when Simon suggested sharing his own design mockups for the project, we were happy to meet it halfway. Nevertheless, we never compromise the quality of work and cleanliness of code. The mockups needed just subtle modifications.

GOAL

Our main objective was to create and launch a highly responsive multi-page WordPress platform, which would contain six pages coded in the HTML format based on Bootstrap with an integrated particularly essential CRM. Moreover, we aimed at providing the easy to manage user admin dashboard for Simon. The website’s mobile and tablet versions ought to be user-friendly as well!

PROCESS

As the project moved along dynamically, it was highly communicative with skype calls and emails clarifying minor details, as usual though. Then we had Natalia joining the process to share her major points of view. So we adjusted the preliminary-based plan to fit the requirements. Further we proceeded with a precise brief and still handy instruction course for Simon. With a developed template the client was delighted to learn how to create new website pages to his necessity and likings.

ACHIEVED RESULT

Our team perfectly succeeded in taking care of the theme development, QA testing and bug fixing, a Pipedrive CRM and a Calendly plugin integration. Specifically, the latter was sure to contribute to the communicative effect of the platform, generating more inquiries from the Russian-speaking clients. The plain theme, the design of unpretentious cozy atmosphere, highly user-friendly guidelines across the sections lead to assuredness for future students and parents to proceed with application.

We took great pleasure working with Simon and his team. We wish them the best achievements in entering new markets! And we are always there to assist.

Beyond The Duero – a Pixel-Perfect Blog and Bookshop

October 4, 2019

Client

This project was the one that gave our team a unique and varied experience. Tim, being a fascinating person – he speaks two languages, fluently and writes books on his travels with photo illustrations, is also a demanding client. He has a 25-year experience in printing and has an eye for the designs. Thus, the site needed to be gripping and eye-catching.

Tim came to us in January 2019 with ready designs and a great disappointment in two previous developers. It’s important to note that one of the earlier developers was close, but couldn’t understand and tell Tim that he was accidentally using a wrong testing technique. Which meant, they saw two different things on their screens.

Beyond The Duero Image 1

GOAL

Our client had already got ready designs for his site, and we had to do the rest – front-end coding and programming to make a blog-and-shop bilingual WordPress site. It needed to be pixel-perfect, responsive, and more importantly, it had to look good on all screen sizes, even those that are still in the tech labs. Our other mission was to achieve the result that Tim needed and that the previous developers couldn’t deliver. We had to be the third and the last ones who would finally bring the site to life.

PROGRESS

The client came to us with the designs in the Adobe Illustrator (.ai) format (a vector format adored by the print designers), so we had to begin practically from scratch. It was a real challenge, as the designs had to be pixel-perfect, but .ai files were even not in pixels, they were in centimeters and with decimal numbers. This unit mismatch had significantly complicated and slowed down the front-end coding process. Thanks to Tim, who had redone all the mockups by himself, the work moved along faster.

Beyond The Duero Image 2

That took us quite a lot of time; we made numerous revisions and spent countless hours reading Tim’s feedbacks and making corrections to our code. Finally, the first milestone was approved, and we began turning making dead code alive with back-end programming. It was another exciting task, as there were many unique features to be developed.

Beyond The Duero Image 3

Another challenge was to make WordPress plugins work together: Woocommerce to sell products and WPML to make the site bilingual. It wasn’t easy, as these two plugins were in “conflict” with each other and it took us some time to “reconcile” them.

To implement newsletter, we had to use a MailChimp integration to avoid using an unnecessary plugin that could flood the site with subscriptions and negatively affect the site performance.

ACHIEVED RESULT

A fully custom pixel-perfect site, attractive and intriguing invites you for a voyage beyond the river Duero and all over the world. Here are some exciting features of this site.

Pop-ups appear as soon as you enter the site.

The shop and the blog side function separately – the independent search is possible for each of them, and the links from the footer are different. You can choose three types of currency and either English or Spanish edition. You can even add both versions to the cart without leaving a product page. How convenient! The publication of new posts and products can be scheduled for two months ahead through the admin panel.

Books and prints can be delivered throughout the world, and the delivery cost is calculated automatically according to the delivery country/region/state and local taxes. Are you ready for a virtual voyage? Then click here.
